The italicized words are catchwords. Cf. M.Bertram in Quellen and Forschungen aus italienischen Archiven und Bibliotheken, 53 (1973), 464f, not mentioning this MS. F.303 in a rough hand of c.1300: 'Memoriam uuiluel set carnes confiteantur. Isti sunt articuli quos dominus rex concessit episcopis et eorum subditis. Circumspecte agatis … prohibitione licet porigatur' (Edw. III, June-Jul. 1286; Councils and Synods II. ii, pp.974-975, and EHR 43 [1928], 1-20), and two sets of verses in hands of the same period: 'Cum fueris quod uis, probat actio tunc tua quid sis / Cum mea bursa sonat hospes mihi fercula donat / Cum uacuata iacet si loquor ipse tacet'; 'Iam mendicat misere corus poetarum' (4 lines). F.303v covered with notes and verses in late 13th-cent. hands; some of those at the top of the page are indecipherable even under ultra-violet light: 'Memoriam ?muluel set carnes confiteantur'; 'Benigne feo la velville trot. Vnde uersus [illegible]'; 'Est uates arator cultor telluris arator' (Walther 5881); 9 lines of prose: 'Mulier est hominis confusio … ; Iuuenis qui fornicatur peccat … ; Omnis fornicacio et luxuria fugienda est … '; 'Quociens Marie nomen nominatur, tociens caterua demonum fugatur' (monostich); 'Congnatum fratremque cane carumque sodalem' (3 lines); 'Retro rodentes et coram blanda loquentes' (distich); 'Portatur leuiter quod portat quisque libenter' (distich); 'Non est sedicio tam letalis sub olimpo' (distich); 'Plura promittit eger dare dum cruciatur' (4 lines); 'Qui simulat uerbis nec corde est fidus amicus' (distich); 'Sepe retrocedit dominum qui uincere credit' (distich); 'Venditur arbitrium dum uiuitur ex alieno' (distich; Walther 20070); "E. dictus s. mundus p. res sunt, sunt anime p.' (monostich); 'Eternum cum principio dic fine carere' (3 lines); 'Ecce crucis longum, latum, sublime profundum' (4 lines; Walther 5072); 'A nona hora noctis donec sit tercia lucis' (5 lines; Walther 56); 'Unum crede Deum nec iures uana per ipsum' (4 lines; Walther 19669); 'Qui facit incestum deflorans aut homicida' (6 lines; cf. Walther 18083); 'Framea uindictam tibi Christum signat et ensem' (monostich); 'Gaudet epar spodio mace cor' (3 lines; Walther 7108); 'Anselmus dicit Non minus meretur pauper si sua rapiuntur et sustinet per pacientiam quam si cunta tribueret per elemosinam'; 'O pater Deus qui nobis de brutis animalibus solacium subrogas … '. F.304 notes in late 13th-cent. anglicana hands: (a) a herbal recipe; (b) Four documents, the first two in the same hand: (i) Synodal Statute of W. bishop of Norwich, concerning the right of rectors in the diocese to will portions of their churches' income. This copy omits the gloss at the end by Bishop Bateman and ends as in CUL Ii. 3. 7, f.143v (early 14th-cent., from Norwich Cathedral), adding: 'Originale huius statuti consingnatum residet in hospitali sancti Egidii Norwycensis etc.' Councils and Synods: II. i, pp.498-501, there attributed to Walter Suffield and dated 1255. (ii) Synodal Statute of Bishop William of Norwich, repeating the above, dated London, 16 Sept, 4th yr. of his pontificate. Printed ibid., p.342, there attributed to William Raleigh and dated 1243; (iii) Sir N. de Ufford to Bishop W(illiam Ayermine) of Norwich, seeking confirmation of his presentation of N. to the church of N., dated 'Landerey' 7 Jan. 1330; (iv) John de Breuse to Bishop William of Norwich, seeking confirmation of his presentation of Robert Algor" de Akenham as vicar of Heydon, undated. Ff.304v-305 blank. At the top of f.305v is 'Caucio Roberti de Ripyngham exposita ciste sancte Trinitatis pro [?] s. in festo inuencionis sancte crucis anno Domini millesimo nonagesimo ix. Habet supplementum unum portiforium', and other partly-erased pen-trials. The chest is a Cambridge one, and 'Ripyngham' may be the Robert of Rypplingham of BRUC 500, at Cambridge 1462-c.1484/5, later rector of places in Leics. and Cambs., dying c.1505-6. 'Rypingham' is recorded as one spelling of this man's name, but the hand of the inscription does not look as late as this.
